Church of Satan Sigil of Baphomet

WHY SATANISM MUST NOT BE CONFUSED WITH DEVIL WORSHIP

Satanism is an atheist philosophy which does not condone sacrifices nor does it support murder. Our stance on criminal acts is that the punishment should fit in kind and degree the crimes committed.

The admitted devil worshipper pictured below left is a theist, not a Satanist. Regardless of what fictional entity is being worshipped, many now grasp that extremist theism worldwide promotes acts of savage injustice. Today murders, beheadings, sexual slavery and torture are stock-in-trade for many people of “faith” and such deeds are often inflicted on those who do not share the beliefs of the perpetrators. Sadly, we can observe this in news feeds on almost a daily basis. Here is yet more evidence.

The Church of Satan stands firm in opposition to criminal acts, whether or not they are perpetrated in the name of any deity. Global law enforcement officers have been learning that Satanism does not entail demonolatry and sacrificial acts, and that we support a social contract consisting of reasonable laws. Our spokespersons and members continue to promote understanding of the reality of our beliefs and refuse to be categorized along with those who worship devils, demons or any other such fictional entities.
